This is a post with packaging resource(s)
When ever I share what I have done with my work, I always say there is no one single way of doing a thing. In this case packing. This is not the one and only perfect way, but this is just one way of packing the work that I have created, and shipped successfully.
I am sharing packing of two forms.
One is a closed two part jar, the other is an open form with a mirror for installation.
Materials I used are the insulation foam (used in construction), masking tape, marker, paper and foam cutter + cardboard box.
Packing a lidded jar
it has the base and lid
carving shape for the base
layers to support
make sure the curve resonates
the shape of the jar
notice the angle, helps
with no movement of the pot
addition of supports on the sides
stuck in place.
layer of separation
notch for finger to lift
the layer easily when
unpacking. who is
thinking about the
details?
more layers to secure lid
no space for anything to move
porcelain bowl
on a mirror.
I hope this helps! please do comment and share.
open the box and remove the top layer.
porcelain bowl in sight with markings to match the
packing foam. the irregular shape needs reference.
where the bowl becomes narrower the packing
foam needs to be split in two for ease of removal.
notice cut outs for access to the layers of foam.
its time to pick up the bowl itself.
carved and marked reference relating to the shape.
the mirror is packed below this foam sheet.
this work was part of a traveling exhibit. China &
Finland.
notch for finger and paper strip to help with lifting
the glass off the sunk foam sheet.
The packing material can be reused for onward
shipping.
close the box.
